Crackle’s Woke Up Dead Is Alive (and Doing Well)

The combination of Napoleon Dynamite and Newman is proving to be a hit maker on the Web.

On Oct. 5, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Web video outlet launched Woke Up Dead—which is described as a “live-action zombie comedy.” The new show, which stars Dynamite headliner Jon Heder, along with Wayne Knight (Seinfeld’s Newman) and Jean Smart (24, Designing Women), has generated 1.4 million streams since its debut last week.

Crackle has employed a unique scheduling strategy to promote Woke Up Dead. The series’ first four episodes were posted on the site initially on Oct. 5; and a new episode premieres each weekday until Oct. 30, resulting in 23 episodes overall. Dead is part of Crackle’s Halloween-themed, month-long Zombiefest, which features previews of the new film Zombieland as well as 16 full-length zombie-themed movies.

Woke Up Dead is being sponsored by Kodak and Universal, which is promoting the DVD release of the horror movie Drag Me To Hell.
