Daily News Editorial Staff Takes Buyout, Avoids Layoffs

Seems that owner Mort Zuckerman’s plan to avoid layoffs at the struggling Daily News has paid off: enough editorial staffers at the paper have accepted his proposed buyout package so that mass involuntary layoffs were successfully avoided. Hurrah!

Earlier this month, we reported that Zuckerman had offered most at the Daily News two weeks’ worth of pay per year of work at the paper.

Among the staffers who decided to take the package is George Rush, half of the gossip duo “Rush & Molloy.” It appears that his wife and writing partner Joanna Molloy has elected not to take the buyout. Another prominent staffer taking the buyout is David Saltonstall, a senior correspondent.
