Dancing Edges Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting as Most Watched Prime Time Show

Holiday regalia is full steam ahead! Office parties are the norm. And another seasonal mainstay is NBC’s tradition of the Christmas tree lightning at home base–Rockefeller Plaza.

The holiday favorite brought throngs in the Christmas spirit to Midtown, and millions to their seats. The show tied for second, according to Nielsen, with an estimated 1.4 million viewers tuned in to WNBC, and a 7.2 rating.

The final 15 minutes of CBS’ NFL coverage also nailed down number two for the week.

But standing atop all others was ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. The celebrity competition had the top spot with last week’s result show (1.4 million/7.4).  Performance night “settled” for fifth place (1.2 million/6.2).

CBS’ 60 Minutes found a home at number four (1.2 million/6.3).

There’s more from the Top 10 after the jump.

In the head-to-head battle between X Factor and The Voice, NBC’s singing program proved to be a notch above. The Voice appeared twice in the Top 30, with the highest entry at number 20 (718,000/3.7). Simon Cowell’s creation, however, was only recognized once at 25 (658,000/3.4).

The Knicks and Nets finally hooked up, after being postponed by Sandy. TNT was at the mic for the first regular game between the rivals in Brooklyn. It gave TNT a tie for 22nd place with 686,000 fans and a 3.5 rating.
