Desperados Tequila-Flavored Beer may have just won the award for the best YouTube takeover in history with ‘The Desperados Experience’, a new campaign that hit the video site earlier this month. Like previous YouTube takeover campaigns from Samsung, Tipp-Ex and Sly Stallone, Desperados takes over the YouTube interface, smashing it up and making it their own. But they’ve taken things to the next level, incorporating Facebook connect to make you and your friends part of the action.
When you head over to YouTube.com/Desperados, you’ll come face to face with what looks like a regular YouTube video page, but is actually an elaborate interactive campaign. You’ll be asked to enter your date of birth to make sure you’re old enough to get into the party (required because it’s a campaign for an alcoholic beverage). As soon as you let them know you’re of legal age, and decide if you want to party with men or women, the doors open and you get in to the party. But that’s only the beginning.
Once you get in to the party you’ll be asked to ‘Connect with your Facebook’. And trust me, you’ll definitely want to do that. Connecting brings all your friends to the party with you, printing their faces within the actual video on everything from a coffee mug to the fridge and, at the end, you’ll get a really funny surprise—your face will be tattooed on a woman’s back or a man’s chest (depending upon whether you decided you wanted to party with men or women). You’ll also invite pictures of your male or female friends, depending on who you decided you wanted to party with.
There are also a number of other cool interactive features over the course of the video—you’ll be asked to turn down the volume and to help break down some walls. It’s a good time all around. Check out ‘The Desperado Experience’ and then scroll down to let us know what you think in the comments. How did you look in tattoo form?
