Sega and Double Fine Productions have today announced the launch date for The Cave on iOS devices. The adventure game comes from the mind of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion creator Ron Gilbert, and sees players assembling a team of three heroes before entering an underground cave system and discovering its secrets.

The Cave offers seven adventurers in total each with their own personalities, backstories and more. The environments see players interacting and manipulating with obstacles to make their way through, like pulling levers, swinging across gaps, and lighting objects on fire, as examples.

Previously released on consoles, The Cave on mobile features updated controls that “enhance the experience” on iOS devices. It has been confirmed to Inside Mobile Apps that players will tap or drag on the screen to make their characters move, and can swap between characters by tapping on icons on the bottom of the screen. Jumping and climbing actions are accomplished by swiping upward or in an arching motion.

The Cave will launch on iPhone and iPad on October 3 for $4.99 in the US and £2.99/ €4.49 overseas. Check back soon to follow the game on AppData, our tracking service for mobile and social apps and developers.
