Drync secures $2.1 million in funding for expansion of social wine discovery platform


Drync, the mobile social network for wine drinkers, has secured $2.1 million in additional funding to expand its app offering and executive team. This funding is on top of the $900,000 the company secured in August 2013, and sees Drync bringing Brian Carr in as COO of the company. Carr comes from Springpad, an Evernote competitor.

After originally launching on iPhone and Android, the Drync app has now been officially released for iPad. Using the app, users can discover new wines, track those they like, make a record or catalog of the wines in their cellars, and share content with their friends.

The app has been updated with a new social activity feed, which allows users to view and comment on their friends’ activity within the app. When friends spot a wine they’d like to purchase (or even those that are popular among strangers), the app facilitates purchases, while also offering connectivity to Facebook and Twitter.

“Our users have three major requests – the ability to discover and buy great wines, a way to connect with friends and share experiences, and an iPad-specific product to do both,” said Brad Rosen, CEO of Drync. “The new iPad release is the perfect wine discovery tool, and creates a social platform for sharing and discussing wine.”

Drync will use its newest funding to further expand the personalization and social elements of its platform, in an effort to make buying wine “less intimidating, more relevant, and more fun.”
