ESPN to Launch New York Local iPhone App

Less than two months after launched its locally focused New York site, the sports network has announced an upcoming set of iPhone applications for local markets, including New York.

The apps, which are free to download, focus on providing breaking news and scores relevant to each locale’s fan base while also allowing users to share photos and comments while at a game. ESPN also points out that the apps provide room for banner ads and other sponsorship opportunities.’s app will be the first on the market. Apps for Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York will become available in several weeks, ESPN said. The announcement also contains a demo video for the app. We have no idea why ESPN would not make it easy to embed this video, which is basically a commercial for the app, but there you have it.
