Facebook confirmed its acquisition of Servicefriend, an Israeli startup that develops customer-service bots, and signs point to the transaction being completed with the social network’s upcoming Libra cryptocurrency in mind.
A Facebook spokesperson would only say, “We acquire smaller tech companies from time to time. We don’t always discuss our plans.”
However, Lunden reported that the LinkedIn profiles of co-founders Ido Arad and Shahar Ben Ami, as well as full stack developer Billy Chu, all indicate not only that they all work for Facebook, but specifically on the Calibra digital wallet it is developing.
Servicefriend said on its homepage, “We are thrilled to share that Servicefriend is now moving to the next chapter of our exciting journey. Over the past four years, we managed to stand out and build a great platform for brands to deliver excellent experiences at scale over WhatsApp and Messenger. Our mission to transform the way business interact with people and to let people communicate with businesses as they do with their friends has always been our raison d’etre.”
