Facebook Enables Businesses to Indicate Temporary Changes to Hours, Services on Their Pages

Facebook added a way for businesses with changes to their hours or service options due to the coronavirus pandemic to reflect those temporary changes on their pages.

The new feature can help in cases such as businesses that are temporarily closed, restaurants offering delivery or pickup options while they are forbidden to host diners or businesses providing virtual services instead of in-person activities.

It can be accessed by going to page settings, page info, hours, temporary service changes, where page administrators can choose between “Temporarily Closed” or “Open With Service Changes.”

The latter includes online services, delivery, pickup and other changes, and Facebook said the other changes option can be used for indicating special hours for elderly customers, gift card purchases or other offerings.

Facebook said in a blog post, “When a business makes updates to reflect their temporary service changes, the information can appear on the page, the page preview, in search and in curated lists of local resources on Facebook. For example, within events, if people are looking at a featured list of ‘Places Offering Delivery,’ they’ll see businesses that indicate that their services include delivery. If people search for a local business on Facebook, they can easily see what’s available to them, like pickup and delivery only, or a temporary business closure.”
