Facebook donated $1 million to Give2Asia to provide relief to victims of this summer’s floods in south Asia.
The social network and Give2Asia are working with local organizations in India, Bangladesh and Nepal—including Goonj (India), Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society (India) and BRAC (Bangladesh)—to help meet primary needs such as medical services, shelter and coordination of emergency response between local, national and international responders.
Give2Asia president and CEO Birger Stamperdahl wrote in a blog post: “For both relief and preparedness, working at the local level is a fundamental belief behind Give2Asia’s work and why we fund programs and initiatives from the local leaders who are the most personally committed to the long-term sustainability of the solutions that Give2Asia seeks to support. Give2Asia is privileged to be supporting Facebook’s effort to reach local, affected communities in response to the south Asia floods. Give2Asia is mobilizing its entire donor network at this time and encourages you to join us in support of these communities. Click here to contribute.”
