Halloween Was a Red-Hot Hot Topic on Facebook and Instagram in October

Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day were also strong holidays and events for the month

Trick or treat: Halloween dominated Facebook IQ’s Hot Topics for both Facebook and Instagram in October.

Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day were also strong holidays and events for the month, according to the social network’s research arm.

Major League Baseball’s Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees sizzled on Facebook in October, while Instagram sports fans chatted about the National Basketball Association’s Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons and injured player Gordon Hayward.

Dr Pepper and Assassin’s Creed were hot brands on Facebook for the month, while Instagram users discussed Star Wars: The Last Jedi, South Park: The Stick of Truth and The Evil Within.

Jimmy Kimmel and the late Fats Domino were October Hot Topics in the people category on Facebook, while Instagram users posted about Wednesday Addams and Tim Burton.

As far as entertainment, Facebook Hot Topics for October included Eminem, black-and-white photography and The Walking Dead, while the hip-hop artist and the television show were also hot on Instagram.

Facebook IQ measured subjects that drove disproportionately high volumes of discussion on both social platforms, marking the latest in a Facebook-Adweek Hot Topics monthly series that began in 2015.
