Facebook confirmed the official rollout of a feature enabling Messenger users to import their contacts from Instagram.

Users with access to the feature will see a Sync Instagram Account option under the People tab in the Messenger application.

In November 2016, Facebook introduced a single inbox for businesses, enabling them to access their communications from Facebook, Messenger and Instagram in a single location.

Tests of a similar feature for non-business users were spotted last year.

And a Connect to Instagram option for Messenger surfaced last December.

Instagram has a messaging feature of its own, Instagram Direct, which debuted in December 2013.

Jane Manchun Wong, a computer science student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, shared screenshots of the feature in a tweet, which, in turn, was shared by Sarah Perez of TechCrunch.
