Facebook fans are getting their hands on more and more exclusive content. First, The New Yorker made a 12,000-word story by Jonathan Franzen available only to Facebook users who Liked its page. Now, cable network truTV announced that it will present a full-length episode of Operation Repo as a reward for the show’s Facebook page topping the 500,000-Like milestone, AdAge.com reported.
The season finale of the show will air on the former Court TV Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, and the made-for-Facebook episode will follow immediately thereafter. The network added that this season of Operation Repo averaged 1.9 million viewers and was basic cable’s top program for its time slot among adults 18-49.
truTV head of brand strategy Mary Corigliano told AdAge.com, “The Operation Repo challenge is a perfect example of how truTV is able to activate its very loyal and engaged fan base,” adding that although scenes for the Facebook-only episode were filmed in advance, it would not have aired if the Facebook page did not top 500,000 likes. It had reached nearly 540,000 at the time of this post.
