Glenn O’Brien, who was not too happy about being replaced as GQ’s Style Guy over the summer, has landed at Maxim. According to WWD, O’Brien will serve as successor to editor in chief Kate Lanphear, who left late last month.
In what seems like an omen, O’Brien’s title is not editor in chief, it’s editor at large. As to why he isn’t taking on the editor in chief title, O’Brien simply told WWD, “I can’t take that kind of pressure.” Joking or not, seems like an odd thing for a top editor to say.
O’Brien said he would attempt to “mature” Maxim by focusing on fashion and deeply-reported features.
Lanphear—who tried to do the exact same thing during her short, six month tenure—likely has no comment.
