Google Goggles is a free app for Android phones that can identify places (landmarks) and things (books, logos). It lets you take photos of objects which are then sent to Google Goggles servers for identification. Its place identification process is a bit different in that it IDs places (businesses) around you in real-time (like many of the Augmented Reality apps).
TechRadar reports that Google intends to allow other apps (third parties) to take advantage of their service in the near future.
This is, of course, a good way for Google to add even more information about “things” in the real world to its data collection.
