We've all been there: Drive all the way to a store to buy a last-minute gift…only to find your lifeline has already locked its doors.

Google is trying to cut down on that recurring theme of the holiday season by making holiday store hours available in maps and search.

The update, announced today, will show results for whenever a major holiday is happening within the following seven days. If hours aren't listed by a store online, Google will display a warning message reminding users that hours might be different than normal.

The feature is available around the world.

"We've got you covered pretty much everywhere you search and anywhere you go," according to Google's blog post. "Because holiday hours and warnings are available globally, if you happen to be celebrating Boxing Day in the U.K. or New Year's Eve in Sweden, you'll see info specific to the country you're in."
