Google Offers Expands To Five More Locations

Google Offers, which is the company’s fledgling deals service similar to Groupon, is taking another step in its slow rollout with an expansion into Austin, Boston, D.C., Denver, and Seattle. The service is already available in Portland, New York, and the Bay area.

People in these areas can take advantage of Google Offers by either going to or by using the Google Shopper for Android app. The offers are available on the Today’s Offer tab of the Shopper app and if you live in an area where Offers is not currently available you can change it to display an offer from one of the included cities, such as I have shown in the screenshot.

The Android Shopper app also displays offers available via Places, which is Google’s advertising and business listing service, on the Nearby Offers tab. Places is available throughout the U.S., so you will find coupons from participating businesses near your location.

Both Offers, which provides a daily special deal for a limited number of people, and Places, which provides business listings and coupons, are part of Google’s overall retail strategy which in the future will also include payment from NFC-enabled Android phones like the Nexus S using Google Wallet. Currently, some participating Places retailers may display posters that contain NFC chips that the Nexus S can detect to display the coupons that retailer is offering.
