Group Buying Comes To NBA All-Star's Facebook Page

Group buying is all the buzz right now, and a new service, AtCost.com, is bringing a group buying platform to Facebook Pages starting with Amar’e Stoudemire’s Page. The All-Star’s first sale is for a ticket to the game, currently priced at $439.44, which is definitely not a cheap ticket for most. Whether or not this sale will be successful is unknown, but according to the page, the value of the ticket is $800, which makes $439 look like a deal (I guess).

While this specific deal may come and go, the opportunity for group buying on Facebook is massive, especially when combined with Facebook Pages. While numerous third-party ad networks on the Facebook Platform have built integrated monetization solutions which include group buying functionality, AtCost.com’s group buying platform for Facebook Pages is the first type of product we’ve seen like this.

While I’d expect numerous copy cats to launch in the coming weeks and months, the opportunity for creating your own group buying offers is significant. I wouldn’t even be surprised to see a company like LivingSocial launch a white label version of their service for Facebook Page administrators. While the logistics of such a system would need to be devised, I could definitely see this gaining traction.

If you’d like to check out the service yourself, you can visit Amar’e Stoudemire’s Facebook Page and click on the “STORE” tab.
