The discount coupon platform will have a web site address different from its usual form. One more “n” is added to “Groupon” and if you place your cursor over the Groupon New Zealand logo, you’ll get a small window that says “Coupons, Deals by Stardeals.” Stardeals is Groupon’s name in Australia since they were unable to nab the groupon.com.au from its current owner, Scoopon. Groupon was unable to nab their domain name from the Australian site since it had been plucked from under them. Scoopon is attempting to cash in on what could turn out to be a very good deal.

The National Business Review reports New Zealand is already inundated with Groupon clones, including Grabone, Cudo, Groupy (recently bought by Yellow), Spreets (now part of Yahoo) 1-Dayout and TradeMe’s TreatMe, among others.

GroupOn New Zealand registered with the Companies Office on February 16, 20011, and lists the Phillips Fox tower in Auckland as its address. It will be interesting to see how Groupon fairs in New Zealand with all these other deal making sites.
