Here’s How to Send a Direct Message in the Twitter Mobile App

If you've yet to try Twitter's direct messages feature, our guide will show two ways you can do so.

While many Twitter conversations take place through public replies, the platform also allows users to have private conversations by sending direct messages. If you’ve yet to try Twitter’s DM feature, our guide will show you two ways you can do so.

Method No. 1

Step 1: Go to the profile of the user you wish to message.

Step 2: Tap the “Message” button under the user’s profile banner.

Step 3: Type your message.

Step 4: Tap “Send” to send the message.

Method No. 2

Step 1: Tap the “Messages” button at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: Tap the “New Message” button in the top-right corner of the screen.

Step 3: Type the username of the user you’d like to message.

Step 4: In the search results, tap a username to select a user as a recipient. Note: In this method, you can type multiple usernames to add multiple recipients to a private group conversation.

Step 5: Tap “Next.”

Step 6: Type your message.

Step 7: Tap “Send” to send the message.
