Holy Journo Perk! – STK Opening Party

20140424_203950PR firm exec offered to take you to lunch? Publicist dying to give you their pitch? Looking to take your newsroom out to celebrate a boost in ratings? Take advantage of their company card at DC’s newest restaurant, STK.

After naming STK’s miniburger the best plate of the night at the Washington City Paper’s Best of DC Fete earlier this month, I scored myself an invitation to the opening party for this “modern steakhouse” Thursday evening. Talk about a journo perk, this party was off the hook.

Unlike most DC functions, STK had a line of more than 100 Washingtonians waiting to get in. Luckily I don’t wait – and did not wait – and was ushered in by one of The Aba Agency’s gorgeous PR mavens sporting all black and the highest of heels.

Enter – and it’s nowhere like you’ve ever seen before in DC. This place is packed, and you can just tell they have some big names in attendance.

20140424_203207True to its tag line, STK is “not your daddy’s steakhouse,” for sure. The restaurant is massive and uber-modern.

Surpassing the miniburger’s reign as “the best thing I’ve ever eaten,” was the tuna tartare. I really don’t know how it was so much better than others I’ve had, but it was. Also being passed around were mac-n-cheese bites, oyster shooters, shrimp cocktail, and truffle fries (also bomb).

In attendance: Washington Kastles’ Mark Ein and Chris Tavlarides; retired Redskins players Shawn Springs and Lee Boden; ABC7’s Jummy Olabanji; Washingtonian’s Catherine Merrill Williams; Laura Carlson of Sirens Media; WaPo’s Maura Judkis; WaPo Express’ Holley Simmons and Jen Barger; US News’s Nikki Schwab; Capitol File’s Laura Mullen; Revamp and last year’s WHCD photog Daniel Swartz; Pamela Sorensen of Pamela’s Punch; Destination DC’s Elliott Ferguson; Kathy Hollinger from the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington; WPGC’s Guy Lambert; Cori Sue Morris; Thrillist’s Laura Hayes; Doug Rashid; Sophie Pyle; Gilt Groupe’s Marissa Schneider; Moki Media’s Dannia Hakki and Maha Hakki; Fresh FM’s Jen Richer; Ink Blot Army’s Jessica Hoy and Teddy DuvalMark Drapeau; and Brendan Kownacki.
