How to Become Gilt Groupe’s New Community Manager

Gilt Groupe is known for its exclusive online sales, many of which are driven by expert curators and whip-smart promotion. Part of that recipe for success is having a strong social media presence, which, as you can imagine, is helmed by carefully chosen individuals. Luckily, the company is hiring a community manager right now, but you should know a few things before you apply.

1. Be a social media addict. Gilt is looking for someone who is already immersed in social media culture. Not only are you constantly sending out oh-so-retweetable thoughts, but you already have profiles on next-big-thing platforms and wear your Klout score like a badge of honor.

2. Have a passion for fashion. This particular opening is for the women’s division, so your eyes should light up at the mere mention of anything from Marc Jacobs to Missoni. Clothing, accessories, shoes and outerwear are all in your wheelhouse.

3. Know your stuff. To even be considered, you should have hands-on experience with a variety of channels, and be familiar with social media vocabulary, tools, processes, analytics, emerging trends and best practices.

4. The key word is “social.” In this role, you’ll be working closely with internal and external partners, so you should put your most personable and professional foot forward. In addition to increasing brand engagement, you’ll also team up with others to develop innovative social media strategies.
