It’s getting buggy out there in the world of social media, as Facebook was joined by Instagram and Twitter on the list of platforms experiencing difficulties.

A bug on Facebook Tuesday automatically added audience targeting to video posts by pages, which greatly diminished the reach of those posts.

Corporate sibling Instagram is dealing with a bug that is wreaking havoc with some accounts’ follower numbers, to the point where reports and tweets speculated that the Facebook-owned photo- and video-sharing network was conducting another purge of bots and fake accounts.

However, Instagram confirmed in a tweet of its own that the issue was being caused by a bug, writing, “We’re aware of an issue that is causing a change in account follower numbers for some people right now. We’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible.”

Meanwhile, many Twitter users were experiencing an issue that caused the number of likes on their tweets to fluctuate wildly.

Twitter Support confirmed the bug, tweeting, “Some people around the world are experiencing an issue with notifications, likes and retweets. We’re working on resolving this and will follow up soon. We apologize for the inconvenience.” David Cohen is editor of Adweek's Social Pro Daily.
