Instagram: Here’s How to Use Less Data When You’re Not on WiFi

Follow this guide to make the Instagram app use less data when you're on a cellular connection

Did you know you can make the Instagram application use less data when you’re not on a WiFi network?

By default, the Instagram app will preload videos so you can quickly watch them. To use less data, you can turn on the “Use Less Data” setting, which will stop the app from preloading videos when you’re on a cellular connection. Here’s how to activate this setting within the app.

Note: These screenshots were captured in the Instagram app on iOS. Also note, having this setting turned on may make photos and videos take longer to load when you’re not on WiFi.

Step 1: Tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Tap the gear icon.

Step 3: Under “Settings,” tap “Cellular Data Use.”

Step 4: Tap the toggle next to “Use Less Data” to turn on this setting. Note: You can turn this setting off at a later time by following the same steps.
