Businesses on Instagram can now tap into the metrics and insights currently available via the Instagram application through the Instagram Platform API (application-programming interface) following an update Monday under which the Instagram API is now built on the same stack as Facebook’s Graph API.

Instagram said in a blog post that the enhanced metrics and insights will enable businesses to stay on top of the performance of their organic content more effectively than they could via third-party tools.

Businesses must have business profiles to access the new features, and Instagram added that the use of third-party tools will still be permitted, but Facebook Login must be used.

Instagram also added new comment-moderation features to its Platform API, which include the ability to hide comments or toggle them on and off.

The updated Instagram Platform API is currently available to all Facebook Marketing Partners and Instagram Marketing Partners, with public availability to all developers “in the coming weeks.”
