Internships at Huffington Post, Vanity Fair Sell for Thousands in Auction

Newly minted Yahoo! Newsroom writer Michael Calderone is back to the blogs with a story about an auction that sells internships at vaunted media institutions for thousands, or even tens of thousands, of dollars.

“Winners” of a recent auction held by the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Human Rights ponied up for work at such august institutions as Huffington Post ($9,000), Vanity Fair ($2,900) and Vogue ($42,500!). Maybe the internship auction is the revenue model the business has been looking for: Find people who will throw down piles of money for the chance to work for nothing in a troubled industry. It’s a win-win!

Not all of the RFK Center’s prizes catered to aspiring journalists; one bidder paid $8,500 for a meeting with Robert De Niro.
