Is Mort Zuckerman Bidding On Newsweek?

He may have recently offered his Daily News staffers buyout packages as the paper faces the prospect of layoffs, but that, apparently, doesn’t mean Mort Zuckerman might not also be looking to add a new magazine to his stable of publications. According to today’s Media Ink column, Zuckerman’s name has been thrown in the ring as another potential bidder for Newsweek.

Sources say Zuckerman may be looking into folding Newsweek into US News & World Report, which was altered from a monthly news magazine to a weekly amid cuts.

Other publications and names currently expected to submit first round bids, due June 4, include Politico, billionaire Ron Burkle, Thomson Reuters and mogul Haim Saban.
