Julie Henderson to Join Snap as New Chief Communications Officer

Coming from 21st Century Fox, she will succeed current vp of communications Mary Ritti

Executive vice president and chief communications officer at 21st Century Fox, Julie Henderson, is joining Snap Inc. as CCO. Henderson succeeds current Snap vp of communications Mary Ritti, who announced in the summer that she was leaving the company.

Henderson will join Snapchat’s parent company once the sale of certain 21st Century Fox assets to Disney are final, which is expected to be in the first half of 2019. She will report to Snap CEO Evan Spiegel and lead communications globally for the company.

Ritti will remain on the board of the Snap Foundation, a nonprofit focused on art and education programs for disadvantaged youth. In an email to staff, Ritti said that she wanted to “take a deep breath and explore what’s next.”

Henderson joined the company in 2006 as senior vp of corporate communications for Fox Interactive Media and Myspace. She then became senior vp of corporate communications and public affairs for its West Coast businesses before being elevated to senior vp of communications and corporate strategy.

She had been in her latest role at 21st Century Fox since January 2012, serving as the company’s chief spokesperson and leading global communications initiatives with a focus on corporate financial matters, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory issues and litigation. She was also responsible for building and managing the 21st Century Fox corporate brand among audiences worldwide.

Prior to 21st Century Fox, Henderson served as a senior vp at MPRM Public Relations from 1994 through 2006, leading its digital practice.

“Julie will be an outstanding addition to our team. She brings incredible experience, talent and integrity, as well as the respect of the tech, media and finance communities,” Spiegel said in a statement announcing the hire. “I am deeply grateful to Mary for everything she has done for Snap over the past six years.”

Henderson added, “The Snap team’s deep connection with its global community and their passion for creating innovative products made this an irresistible opportunity. As the company enters its next phase of development, its creativity and vision set the stage to grow Snap’s business and impact. I’m excited to work with Evan and my new colleagues to further their vision and belief in the power of visual communications.”
