It’s one of the many fun tidbits in W magazine’s piece about March issue co-cover girl Kate Moss. People generally expect her to be late for magazine and fashion photo shoots, but in fact, regardless of the circumstances, she says she has always been on time.
The headline for editor at large Lynn Hirschberg’s item proclaims that Moss is “Proudly Naked at Age 42” and certainly, the photo at the top of the scroll immediately backs up that statement. Moss shot her W magazine photos in London the day after the 2016 British Fashion Awards.
There’s some fun reminiscing about the start of Moss’ modeling career:
Initially, Calvin Klein wasn’t sure about Moss. She isn’t your typical model: She’s five foot seven (short by industry standards), and she’s somewhat bowlegged. In fact, when Moss was discovered at 14 by the modeling agent Sarah Doukas at a New York airport, her mother was shocked that anyone would want her daughter to pose for pictures.
“My mum said, ‘I don’t think you’re that photogenic!’ ” Moss said, laughing. Moss spent the next two years going out for castings, and when she finally met Day, everything clicked. “From the beginning, photographers always got me to take my clothes off, even though I don’t like my body at all. I just had to get comfortable with being naked.”
Moss is flanked on the cover of the March issue by Jennifer Lopez, Taraji P. Henson, Donatella Versace and Jessica Chastain.
At the British Fashion Awards, held Dec. 5, British Vogue received a Special Recognition award. Editor in chief Alexandra Shulman, who was presented with the prize by photographer Mario Testino, subsequently announced that she plans to exit the magazine this summer.
