The closest New York Post columnist Keith J. Jelly got to obtaining a comment from a Maxim magazine staff member for his latest bit of gumshoe media reporting was when he spoke briefly to publisher Kevin Martinez:
Reached Tuesday, Martinez (no relation to the ousted creative director) said, “Can I call you back in a few minutes?” He then hung up the phone. We’re still waiting.
That ousted creative director, according to Kelly’s sources, is Paul Martinez. Since Martinez’s exit in August, Kelly writes that the revamped magazine has also seen the departure of design director Matthew Lenning and, this week, fashion director Wayne Gross.
New EIC Kate Lanphear apparently fought to prevent the firing of Gross. Read the full Media Ink piece here, which also has Maxim’s recent newsstand sales numbers and some worrisome chatter about owner Sardar Biglari.
