Kindle Users Notes & Highlights Auto-saved to the Cloud? Is This Sinister Like Facebook or Not?

From TechDirt:

Amazon Spying On Your Ebook Highlighting

This “spying” concerns a recently activated Kindle feature that remotely uploads and stores user notes and highlights. TechDirt notes that many people don’t realize this automatic upload of notes and highlights is happening. The commentary sounds a lot like some of the complaints about Facebook’s difficult to understand privacy settings. The difference here though is that it does not appear that Amazon is sharing this data. So, is this a privacy issue in the sense of Facebook’s behavior or is this something less sinister?
