Stephen Colbert Has a Houston Problem

Geographically challenged joke sparks #HoustonIsGreat.

On Tuesday night’s Late Show, Stephen Colbert made a crack about Houston being a tough consolation prize for exiting Republican candidate Rick Perry. Cleverly, local TV station KHOU has turned that into a social media rallying cry.

The station urged viewers to tell Colbert why #HoustonIsGreat, and whether or not he is listening or will follow up on the show, locals are having fun with the whole thing (see below).

Certainly, Houston has the greatest NBA facial hair in the form of James Harden. There’s also the fact that, per the last tweet embedded below, Colbert’s joke may have had a major factual problem. From an article at the beginning of the year in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

Perry becomes a private citizen on Tuesday afternoon, and he and former First Lady Anita Perry have already moved out of the governor’s mansion and into a small two-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouse in Austin. They are also building a new home in Round Top, a community about 70 miles away in Fayette County that is widely known for its annual Shakespeare festival, Perry said.

Nonetheless, as Governor, Perry was definitely always a Houston cheerleader. He also had surgery there in 2011.
