Layoffs Strike Meredith Again

In a sign that the bloodletting in publishing isn’t over, Meredith Corp. laid off about 20 publishing employees as part of a shift in its digital resources.
The cuts mainly affected editorial employees working at Meredith’s niche Web sites and were mostly based at Meredith’s Des Moines, Iowa, headquarters, spokespeople for the company said.
Meredith has been focusing on launching social networking sites like, which are not impacted by the cuts.
This is Meredith’s second round of cuts this year; the company laid off some 45 people in January when it reduced the number of its special-interest shelter publications, citing weakened ad support for those titles.
