LinkedIn chief marketing officer Shannon Brayton is stepping down at the end of the year, with current vice president of brand marketing and communications Melissa Selcher set to step into the role.

The company declined comment on Brayton’s departure.

Brayton said in a LinkedIn post revealing her decision that she will take time off to spend with family before deciding on her next move.

She joined the professional network in September 2010 as vp of corporate communications before ascending to the CMO position in April 2015.

Prior to LinkedIn, Brayton spent a little over two years as senior director of corporate communications at OpenTable.

In her post, Brayton said of Selcher, “I will be turning the reins over to Melissa Selcher, someone I recruited more than three years ago, hoping she’d be the person to eventually take my role one day. Mel is infinitely capable and known as a decisive and collaborative leader who brings out the best in people, and I know she is going to do such a great job by capitalizing on all the momentum we’ve built the last several years.”

Selcher joined LinkedIn in April 2016 as vp of global corporate communications before shifting to her current role in November of that year.

Before that, she spent over seven years at Cisco Systems, as a vp and chief communications officer.

Brayton’s announcement comes one day before her nine-year anniversary at LinkedIn. David Cohen is editor of Adweek's Social Pro Daily.
