LinkedIn Is Prepping for Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation

The professional network announced changes to its terms of service

LinkedIn announced several changes to its terms of service, saying that many of them were driven by the General Data Protection Regulation, which takes effect in Europe in May.

Vice president of legal intellectual property, product and privacy Sara Harrington detailed the changes in a blog post, highlighting the following:

  • The professional network added more controls and choices for members looking to personalize the ads they see, as well as updated language about when advertisers are allowed to access users’ personal information.
  • LinkedIn will provide more information on how it customizes its members’ experiences based on their data, including what they see in its feed, suggestions and how insights are generated.
  • Policies allowing LinkedIn to enforce actions against members that violate its terms of service were updated.
  • More information will be shared about members’ rights to their personal data on how to exercise those rights.
