LinkedIn unveiled a host of new features this week for both ends of the employment spectrum: job seekers and recruiters.
LinkedIn Talent Solutions vice president of product management John Jersin noted in a blog post that the professional network now has more than 630 million members, and engagement is up 24% year-over-year.
Jersin added that job postings on LinkedIn have skyrocketed from 300,000 five years ago to over 20 million, with members applying for 25 million jobs each week and new hires made every eight seconds via LinkedIn.
On the job-seeker side, LinkedIn said the instant job alerts it initially introduced in February—when it detailed the rebuild of core hiring tools LinkedIn Recruiter, Linkedin Jobs and Pipeline Builder into a single platform—enable members to receive push notifications minutes after jobs that meet their criteria or experience are posted.
Jersin said job seekers who are among the first 25 applications for positions are up to three times more likely to land those positions.
The professional network redesigned the LinkedIn Jobs homepage, converting it to a single search and scrolling model, which enables members to more easily find, review and apply to relevant jobs.
Jersin wrote, “We’ve streamlined the LinkedIn Jobs homepage to focus on discovery, giving members easy entry into their first search, updates on any new jobs posted for their previous searches and personalized job recommendations based on skills and activity. We’ve also introduced a ‘remote jobs’ filter and location search to respond to changing needs of different generations.”
And Jersin previewed another feature LinkedIn is developing: skill assessments, which will give members the ability to assess, validate and showcase their skills, as well as serving as a tool for recruiters and hiring managers who are vetting potential candidates.
On the recruiter side, the combination of Recruiter, Jobs and Pipeline Builder into a single platform provides benefits including increased collaboration with access to shared conversations colleagues have had with potential candidates.
New screening questions enable the collection of answers to yes/no questions to help whittle down the list of candidates based on elements such as level of education and length of commute.
For those candidates that don’t make the cut, a new messaging feature enables recruiters to more easily close the loop by sending 25 InMails simultaneously.
