MeeGo's Odd Beta Release: Public Beta Has No GUI But Intel Demoed 1.0 GUI in China

Last week I wondered outloud:

Whatever Happened to Android Tablets, Chrome OS, MeeGo, & Ubuntu Netbook Remix?

I noted that we don’t really see much of MeeGo in the demo video (see above) but didn’t think too much of it at the time. This was a day before I actually downloaded the current public Meego netbook preview binary, booted it on my Acer Aspire One netbook and found it did not have a graphical user interface yet.

Confirmed: Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 Does Not Support Acer Aspire One Battery – Moblin Does

And yet, the Intel provided video (again, embedded above) which is also referenced by MeeGo partner Nokia

Intel demos Meego 1.0 – videos

clearly shows what looks like a functional graphical user interface. Why is this MeeGo 1.0 beta not available for public testing? Something seems odd about MeeGo’s beta release cycle to me.
