Megyn Kelly Thinks ‘Santa Is White’ Critics Should Learn to Take a ‘Joke’

On Friday night, Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly addressed the zero children who watch her 10PM news show to follow up on a controversy she created entirely on her own last week by letting everyone know that Santa and Jesus are white and that’s just the way it is.

Her version of damage control, shared by our sister site TVNewser, confirmed what we all suspected: it was a joke told for the kids, and all those meanies in the media are just using it as an excuse to be such a Regina to Megyn.

Wait, what?

The words that came out of her mouth:

“Humor is part of what we try to bring to the show. Sometimes that’s lost on the humorless…we continually see St. Nick as a white man in modern day America.

By the way, I also did say Jesus was white. As I’ve learned in the past few days, that is far from settled.”

Of course, the outrage that followed was very telling in that it illustrated…something.

“…the knee-jerk instinct by so many to race-bait and to assume the worst in people, especially people employed by the very powerful Fox News Channel.”

Didn’t seem like a joke the first time. It seemed like a well-played attempt to gin up “controversy” by pitting Fox News viewers against those members of the public who might be outraged by Megyn’s brand of “it’s so funny that no one appreciates my attempts at humor” humor.

And who said nobody got the joke? Andy Borowitz, resident kind-of-funny man at The New Yorker, wrote a few letters-to-Santa-style entries that were definitely not serious:

Dear Megyn Kelly,

For Christmas, could I please have a black Power Ranger? Thank you.


Bobby, age six


Dear Bobby,

Unfortunately, we do not have any Power Rangers in stock in the color you requested. Colors available include: white.

Merry Christmas,

Megyn Kelly

P.S.: Bobby, because you’re only six, you probably don’t know this, but when you use the words “black” and “power” together, they become swear words. Never say that again.

Of course, as lowly bloggers we don’t know anything about saying or writing things that other people take way too seriously. Nope.

In summary, this is one of the many ways Fox gets ratings: via expertly manufactured controversies that double as PR stunts. Oh, and Megyn has yet to address the elephant in the room: we see what color she wants her hair to be, but we need to get the facts!

(Ed. note: Anyone who doesn’t recognize the humor in that last sentence just needs to shut the hell up already. We’re big targets for many people.)
