You know the Eat This, Not That booksthe ones with big, glossy pix of common calorie-busting meals laid out side-by-side with equally big, glossy pix of lighter and healthier alternatives. The books are bestsellers, with more than six million copies in print. The Men’s Health iPhone app based on the same content is now on track to do the same.
Launched just two weeks ago, “Eat This, Not That! the Game” has been downloaded 500,000 times. It quickly became the top free app in the Health and Fitness category (it’s now at number five). And at one point it hit number four among all free apps.
Matt Bean, Brand Editor for Men’s Health parent company Rodale, says the app’s success demonstrates that opportunities exist for media companies beyond the traditional publishing model. “The success of this game proves that our content translates to new worldseven gaming, one of the most vibrant markets in mobile,” he said in a press release.
