Michael Arrington to Launch ‘Personal’ Blog

And Barry Diller thinks AOL made a big mistake

It’s only been three days since Michael Arrington officially announced his “resignation” from TechCrunch and AOL, but he’s already moving on to the next project—and it’s another blog.

Last night, Arrington announced on his Twitter account, “I'll be launching my new (personal) blog in a couple of days.” Several minutes later, he followed with another tweet, “network effects beat IP every time”—a possible jab at AOL according to Business Insider, insinuating that even though AOL has the TechCrunch brand, Arrington has the network.

One person who seems to agree with Arrington’s sentiment is IAC Chairman Barry Diller. Yesterday, during a keynote conversation at The Paley Center for Media’s International Council, Diller gave his thoughts on the TechCrunch situation. "You buy [TechCrunch] because it is absolutely the voice of a single person primarily," he said. "And you know when you buy it, that that voice is biased and mean and capable of saying anything, and is playing a hundred different games… And that’s why you buy it — because it’s a good voice, and you like it."

"It’s not a journalistic enterprise, TechCrunch," he continued. "And so to have treated it as such is to destroy it. So now he’s gone, and now they own this thing which has no voice. Congratulations. What a good piece of business."
