Michael Arrington Launches ‘Uncrunched,’ Former TechCrunch Employee Starts New Mystery Company

So what’s happened to ousted Michael Arrington after he was kicked off the site he founded and sold to AOL?

The TechCrunch founder has launched a new blog called Uncrunched.

Business Insider, which got the story first, called ‘Uncrunched’ a “torpedo” aimed at AOL and a “brilliantly named…middle finger.”

In Arrington’s welcome post, which has received almost 250 comments so far, he writes:

“I never really did know what I was doing at TechCrunch. I was writing about startups while building a startup and investing in others. It never occurred to me that as the site became, almost immediately, an important part of the tech news scene, to figure out exactly what my plans were….I’m going to do the same thing I’ve been doing since 2005. I’m going to write about startups, and the people who build them, and the people who fund them, and the people who use them. I’m going to break stories and I’m going to write my opinion, and I’m going to write whatever the hell else I feel like in between. If people want to read what I write, yay. If they don’t, I can live with that too.

“This time, though, my eyes are open. I know exactly what I’m walking into, and I know how to play this game.”

In other TechCrunch news, Paul Carr, who quit after previously writing he wouldn’t work for TechCrunch if Arrington couldn’t handpick his successor, is starting a new mystery company. “We’re not ready to say too much about the specifics right now but — spoiler alert! — it will directly address an issue I’ve written passionately about for both TechCrunch and the Guardian,” he wrote. Tony Hseih (Zappos) and Arrington’s CrunchFund (which is partially funded by $10 million from AOL, oh, the irony) are backing the venture.

In both instances we’re fascinated to see how things will work out.
