MN News Director Leaving KARE-11

Tom Lindner, who has been news director of Minneapolis’s NBC affiliate KARE-11 since 1996, is leaving the station.

“I was simply told that they wanted a change,” Lindner told the Star Tribune.

KARE general manager John Remes added that the decision was made in-house and wasn’t handed down from the station’s owner, Gannett, and that he and Lindner had been discussing change for some time.

Remes said he doesn’t have a timetable for naming a replacement but plans to move “swiftly and smartly.” In the meantime, managing editor Jane Helmke will serve as news director.
