Vimeo is hosting an awesome new music video challenge, along with Moby and Saatchi & Saatchi. The contest, called Hello, Future, invites video creators to make music videos using one of three Moby tracks. Not only will the winning video be screened at this year’s New Directors’ Showcase in Cannes, but winners will also get the chance to work on a project in one of Saatchi & Saatchi’s key offices around the world. Read on to find out more.
The challenge is explained in a brief on Vimeo:
“The brief is simple: interpret and bring to life the idea of ‘Hello, Future’ in the form of a fantastic music video for one of Moby’s tracks from his new album, ‘Destroyed’.
“The winner will be announced and their video screened at this year’s New Directors’ Showcase in Cannes, as well as on the Vimeo site.
“Historically, many featured directors in the Showcase have gone on to seriously successful careers: Tarsem, Michel Gondry, Mark Romanek, Spike Jonze, Ivan Zacharias, Kinka Usher, Danny Kleinman and Jonathan Glazer included.
The tracks available for use are Moby’s ‘Be The One’, ‘The Day’ and ‘After’. I think it’s cool that Moby is taking part in this project, allowing creators to download and use his songs for free. Moby has been a proponent of providing free music for creative works for a while now. His website MobyGratis.com is one of the most popular places to download royalty free music for non-commercial and non-profit films. And the tracks available to contest entrants are definitely perfect for the ‘Hello, Future’ theme.
The submission deadline is midnight EST on May 9, 2011. You’ve only got a few weeks left, so get to work! The full rules and regulations can be found here on Vimeo and you can submit you video at Vimeo.com/saatchiandsaatchi.
