It’s still early, but the Most Attention-Grabbing Headline of the Day Award so far goes to Mother Jones, whose Andy Kroll has a piece up today called “Donald Trump‘s Big Gay Problem.”
No, the post is not a revelation of a scandalous gay affair a la former N.J. Gov. Jim McGreevey or Idaho Sen. Larry Craig. Not that kind of big gay problem. Instead, the kind of problem that comes from having multiple positions on gay rights. Trump apparently supported domestic partner benefits for gay couples in a 2000 interview with the Advocate and also said Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell had “clearly failed.” But he changed his positions last month in an interview with the Des Moines Register.
Kroll quotes experts saying that this problem could mean Trump’s presidential hopes could be dashed even before his campaign begins.
