Discovery Channel’s long-running science series “Mythbusters” has long had plenty of geek cred. Much of that can be chalked up to hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, who put their special effects experience to good use busting myths.
Now, thanks to a new deal with Discovery and BermanBraun, the duo will be expanding their geek empire to new media and new platforms.
As part of the deal, Hyneman and Savage will become co-executive producers of “Mythbusters,” and will work with BermanBraun on developing new television series.
More relevant to the WebNewser audience: Hyneman and Savage are creating a new “branded web initiative” with BermanBraun, as well as video games and a live stage show.
Specifics about the web initiative were not released, but WebNewser will bring you more information when we get it.
“Mythbusters” is already more tech savvy than most television series, having had an iPhone app since last year, and an iPad app when the device launched earlier this year.
“We’re excited not only to continue on the “MythBusters” series for Discovery, but also to expand our reach into additional opportunities in television, the internet, touring, video games and more,” said Hyneman in a statement. “We could not have accomplished this escalation without the dedicated efforts of our entire team, and we’re also extremely grateful to Discovery for their continuing expressions of confidence.”
The press release is after the jump.
