Mets Get the Daily News Clean Sweep

At press time, the team is responsible for every one of the paper's Most Read articles.

It’s a few hours before Game 1 of the 2015 World Series. But already, the New York Daily News is winning.

Per the 5:30 p.m. screen grab at right, all ten of the beleaguered paper’s Most Read stories currently involve the National League champs. Not too surprising, really, but given that this grid is normally dominated by Hollywood celebrities and salacious social media-fed scandals, it’s a sight for New York sore eyes.

For the moment, the Daily News is back to being a ‘Hometown Newspaper.’ And certainly, one of the most fun stories on the roster at right is #8. From Nicole Lyn Pesce’s Oct. 26 piece about Josefina Sola’s contribution to this magical season:

The pop/R&B singer got a big break when her rendition of the national anthem at Citi Field on Aug. 30 was widely praised. Emboldened, she pitched [Yoenis] Céspedes on a new walk-up song to replace “Cuentame” by Charanga Habenera.

“Joking around, I said, ‘You need a new walk-up song. Maybe I can make it for you?'” she said. “I didn’t actually expect him to be like, ‘Sure! Go for it. Just send it to my email, and if I like it, I’ll use it.'”

So she wrote and recorded “The Power” — the English translation of Cespedes’ nickname — the next day, cooing Céspedes’ name between lyrics like, “I got the power/You know the name” and “I love the fame/I like it hot.”

Go Mets!
