Nook Sales Down 16.8% in Fiscal 2013

Barnes & Noble’s Nook business, which is made up of devices, digital content sales and accessories, had revenues of $108 million in Q4 2013 and $776 million for the full year, which was down 36% for the quarter and 16.8% for the full year, the company reported today.

The bookseller pointed out that digital content sales were up 16.2% for the year. The company attributed the losses during the quarter to poor device sales and the drop off in popularity in trilogies such as The Hunger Games and Fifty Shades of Grey. Here is more from the press release:

Going forward, the company intends to continue to design eReading devices and reading platforms while creating partnership models for manufacturing in the competitive color tablet. Thus the widdely popular lines of Simple touch and Glowlight produts will continue to be developed in house, and the company’s tablet line will be co-branded with yet to be announced third party manufacturers of consumer electronics products.
