Note To Large Corporations: Lock Down Your Twitter Feeds

Dear large corporations. If you learn one thing from the way BP handled the response to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, it is this: lock down your Twitter feeds.

Yes, the BP Twitter (@BP_America feed was hacked earlier, with the hackers tweeting: “Terry is now in charge of operation Top Kill, work will recommence after we find a XXL wetsuit. #bpcares #oilspill”

Terry, for those that don’t know, is a fictional charcater that makes a regular appearance on a fake Twitter feed, @BPGlobalPR.

So companies, take note. Lock down those Twitter feeds. And if you do go on Twitter, have a sense of humor about it.
