Older Adults Would Rather Watch the News, While Younger Adults Would Rather Read It


Here’s a thought exercise. Imagine the following demos: 18-29, 30-49, 50-64 and 65+. If you were to sort each demo according to a greater preference for reading news vs. watching news, where would each group fall? Turns out, the preference for watching vs. reading news grows in older demos, according to Pew.

Those in the 18-29 and 30-49 demos prefer reading news–in digital form, naturally–over watching news, while those in the 50-64 and 65+ demos prefer watching over reading. The difference is most pronounced in the 65+ group, where 58 percent prefer to watch, compared to just 27 percent who’d prefer to read.
