Draw Something developer OMGPOP, which was acquired by Zynga in March 2012 for $180 million, was wiped out as part of the layoffs announced by Zynga Monday.
TechCrunch reported on the demise of OMGPOP, sharing the following tweets:
This tweet from the OMGPOP Twitter account attempted to put a positive spin on the events:
While this is the last day at @zynga for many @omgpop staff, we want to thank you for all love and awesomeness over the years!
However, tweets from now-former OMGPOP employees were not as conciliatory.
Former OMGPOP Vice President of People Ali Nicolas:
I learned via Facebook I was laid off today and @omgpop office is closed. Thanks @zynga for again reminding me how not to operate a business
And Former Senior Community Manager Joseph Alminawi:
Thanks for the concern everyone. Yep, I’ve been laid off (along with most of the studio). I’ll share more details soon after I do my exit…
Readers: Is any bad news out of Zynga really that surprising anymore?
